Manish Malhotra Blasts Vidya Balan

Vidya Balan may have had a super hit in Sajid Khan’s Heyy Babyy but more than her acting it was her wardrobe that made more news. The ghastly costumes that Vidya adorned in Heyy Babyy drew some rather harsh comments from the critics and a big thumbs down from her fans.

Even Shahrukh Khan and Saif embarassed an almost about to cry Vidya Balan at the Filmfare Awards by awarding her a Na-Real Award for Worst Wardrobe. Vidya Balan who was mega embarassed at her wardrobe being ridiculed about shifted the blame onto her director Sajid Khan and her fashion designer Manish Malhotra.

Manish Malhotra was taken aback by Vidya Balan putting the blame on him. Says a furious Manish, who is currently  in Milan, “In my 17-year career as a designer, never before has any actress made such an issue about it.

She has been blaming me for her bad outfits and I have been quiet for a year. Not any more!  Vidya has been talking about me at public events.

She feels I gave her a bad look in Heyy Babyy! Pray what about the make-up, hair and outfit (Abu-Sandeep) she sported at the Filmfare awards? It was something like what people used to wear in the 1980s! And what were those horrible gaudy tassels that were hanging down  her dress?” he sneers.

Manish adds sarcastically, “According to her, I screwed up her style. If she thought my styling wasn’t right, why didn’t she put her foot down or simply call me and say ‘Manish, please send something else?’”

Farah Khan On Being A Mom And Her Triplets

Farah’s one busy mom, what with Om Shanti Om releasing in a month’s time and with the fact that she is expecting not one, not two but three kids . Yes, if you hadn’t known then Farah Khan is expecting triplets.

So with one film and three kids to deliver, Farah has a big task at hand. And what does she want, boys or girls? Two boys and one girl, that’s what Farah wants. With the kind of luck, she has, do not be surprised if Farah’s wish becomes true.

Here’s Farah Khan’s interview with Mumbai Mirror where she talks about her married life, Om Shanti Om and her expected triplets.

Farah Khan In Om Shanti om • Did the news of triplets come as a pleasant surprise?
Yes. At 40, I didn’t know whether I’d have even one kid. At 43, I’m going to have three. It’s not something that I was dying for, but now that I’m expecting, I like the idea. For Shirish (Kunder, her husband, maker of Jaan-E-Man), who’s an introvert, the idea of having a big family is even more important.

• Was it Shirish who wanted kids, then?
Yeah, he told me right at the outset that I should see him only if I were ready to get married and have kids. He asked me not to do ‘time-pass’ with him. Left to myself, I’d have happily settled for just such a time-pass relationship.

• How does he handle a high profile wife, who always speaks her mind and has Shah Rukh Khan for her best friend?
He doesn’t care. He doesn’t talk much because he doesn’t feel the need to express his opinions, that’s all. Also, being eight years younger to me, he comes from a more irreverent generation. I’m the conservative, sometimes I get shocked at the amount of money he asks for his work. But he goes ahead and gets these huge amounts.

• Have you both thought of working together, as in making a film together?
No thanks. Shirish would kill me if we worked together. His vision is completely different from mine, and he’s so dominating. We almost killed each other when I choreographed for him for Jaan-E-Man.

• Are you shopping for the kids?
I’m not allowed to go shopping. Kids apart, I need maternity clothes for myself too. Karan (Johar) is doing that for me. He travels a lot, and travels with my list. Recently he called me from London, saying that he couldn’t believe he was standing in the lingerie department of Marks & Spencer, buying maternity bras for me!

• Isn’t Shirish shopping?
I’ve told Shirish to hang on, otherwise he’ll go berserk, shopping. And he hasn’t the faintest idea of what to get. He’s buying things like computers, etc – for the kids.

• That’s an exaggeration.
It isn’t! The other day, he actually bought a keyboard for the kids. I’m trying to tell him that the kids are going to be very small for a while!

• How excited is your brother Sajid?
Sajid is now too excited about the success of his film, Heyy Babyy, to think or talk of anything else.

Vidya Balan : “For the wardrobe, I would like to take as much responsibility as Manish”

The starlet who was given the thumbs up for her debut performance in Parineeta, Vidya Balan was touted as the industry’s next Madhuri Dixit. She might have got criticised for being older than the current breed of heroines or for gaining on weight and looking unpleasant in Heyy Babyy. But with hits and critical appreciation in her favor, there is no stopping for Vidya Balan. Here is an exclusive interview with Rajeev Masand of CNN IBN.

Vidya Balan talks about her pathetic wardrobe in Heyy Babyy, her latest film with Aziz Mirza : “Lucky Charm“, the contorversy surrounding, Eklavya and the directors she wants to work with.

Rajeev Masand: You are just back from a long two-month outdoor in Toronto shooting for Aziz Mirza’s Lucky Charm . What was the experience like, being away for so long?

Vidya Balan: Yes, this has been my longest outdoor. Toronto is a beautiful place and it was my first trip there. We were at a very pretty location downtown. We were actually on Lake Ontario so it was beautiful. I love Aziz Mirza. He spreads so much positivity and cheer that rubs off on everyone. Otherwise what can happen on such a long shoot is that you just get on each other’s nerves. But I don’t think any of that happened. We really had a nice time.

Rajeev Masand: With you being away for two months, you didn’t really get to savour the success of you film Heyy Babyy.

Vidya Balan: Yes, I have just come in though I know it has done really well because I have been in touch with Sajid (Khan) and a couple of other people from the team. I have not been here to enjoy the success but that has also saved me a lot of flak. So maybe there’s a reason for everything.

Rajeev Masand: The flak was not really directed towards your performance as much as it was directed towards your wardrobe.

Vidya Balan: That’s some respite at least. For the wardrobe, I would like to take as much responsibility as Manish (Malhotra) because I think I was a little blasé about the clothes and the look. I tried to be different but I have learnt that you don’t have to look different for the sake of being different. Manish and I should have been more careful because it is the first time I have sported a western look. It would unfair to say that Manish gave me bad clothes because I can also look into the mirror and see what works and what doesn’t. But I didn’t bother too much so both of us should be splitting the flak.

Rajeev Masand: Your film Bhool Bhulaiyya is releasing on the same day as Laaga Chunari Mein Daag. You were offered a role in Laaga … first but you could not do it for whatever reasons. So do you that find it ironic or poetic?

Vidya Balan: Poetic, yes. Like I have said before, I never imagined not being part of Dada’s (Pradeep Sarkar) film. I just got to know a week ago that it’s releasing on the same day. I was amazed. It’s great.

Rajeev Masand: You must feel tricky because you can’t want the other film to not do well.

Vidya Balan: I don’t want anyone’s film to not do well. I’m not trying to sound holier-than-thou but I know what goes into making a film and I think there are enough people to be watching all kinds of films.

Video : Deewangi Promo From Om Shanti Om (Trailer)

Sajid Khan did the impossible by getting 17 Bollywood beautiees dance for the title track of his film, Heyy Babyy. Surely the crowd went wild with the song. But Farah Khan has outdone her brother, she has exceeded Sajid’s feat by miles. If Sajid had 17 Bollywood beauties dancing to the tunes of Heyy Babyy then Farah Khan has more than 30 Bollywood stars dance to the tunes of Om Shanti Om.

The star list in the glittering song Deewangi includes Sanjay Dutt, Salman Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Suniel Shetty, Govinda, Abhishek Bachchan, Hrithik Roshan, Bobby Deol, Rani Mukerji, Preity Zinta, Zayed Khan, Arbaaz Khan, Dino Morea, Ritesh Deshmukh, Aftab Shivdasani, Rekha,Shabana Azmi, Juhi Chawla, Kajol, Tabu, Karisma Kapoor, Urmila Matondkar, Priyanka Chopra, Shilpa Shetty, Lara Dutta, Vidya Balan, Amrita Arora, Tusshar Kapoor, Vishal Dadlani, Rishi Kapoor, Subhash Ghai, Karan Johar, Mithun Chakraborty, Dharmendra, Jeetendra, Amitabh Bachchan.

Farah Khan’s choreography is also very good considering, she had to fit in all the stars in one song. The music by Vishal Shekhar will surely bring the house down. Expect a zillion whistles, hooting and claps when the Deewangi song appears on the big screen.

Sajid Khan’s Open Letter To Vidhu Vinod Chopra

The Eklavya nomination to the Oscars just keeps getting muckier. After listening to Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s remarks, Sajid Khan was very quick in hitting back at Vidhu Chopra.  Personally I feel Sajid Khan showed a bit too much disrespect to  a veteran filmmaker likeVinod Chopra. But guess Sajid was just reveeling in the sucess of Heyy Babyy. He even said that his film Heyy Babyy has made more money than Vidhu Chopra’s all films put together. Now that’s being too arrogant. And we all know Heyy Babyy is nowhere compared to Vidhu Chopra’s classics like Eklavya, Parinda, etc.

Here is an open letter to Vidhu Vinod Chopra by Sajid Khan.

Congratulations for the selection of Eklavya – The Royal Guard as India’s nomination for Oscars.

I saw your comments about films made by you and others in the recent past and what may/may not be worthy enough for recognition at the heartland of India and at the highest level. I am quite sure that you have made some highly respected films in the past and I am also certain that you have the greatest knowledge of films made across the globe.

I am also absolutely fine if you comment on films made by lesser mortals like me or others who may have had an accomplished body of work behind them. Even if you have deep rooted statements to make about my knowledge of cinema, technique, intelligence, calibre and personality in general – I take all of that in good spirit (and humour). After all it’s a free country (and may I add, democratic too?) and we all have a right to speak out!

But doesn’t that hold true for me too?

Shortly after Eklavya – The Royal Guard was announced as the chosen one for India’s nomination, I was asked a simple question if it was a deserving entry or not. I answered in negative. For me, Chak De India or Dharm were better candidates. It was as simple as that with me sharing my point of view. Did I start talking about your intelligence of cinema, skills and personal preferences etc.?

Rajeev Masand’s Review Of Dhamaal

Check out film critic Rajeev Masand’s review of Indra Kumar’s comedy Dhamaal.

We’ve become so accustomed to vulgarity in the name of humour that we’ve forgotten to appreciate clean comedies. Which is why I want to roll out the carpet for this week’s new Bollywood release, Dhamaal, a genuinely funny, plot-driven family comedy directed by – surprise, surprise – the king of melodrama himself, Indra Kumar.

The film stars Ritesh Deshmukh, Arshad Warsi, Javed Jaffrey and Ashish Chaudhary as a bunch of unemployed, down-on-their-luck no-gooders who go in search of a ten-crore rupee treasure they learn about from a dying mob-boss.

As luck would have it, the secret of this hidden treasure also reaches the ears of a crooked cop, played by Sanjay Dutt. So now you’ve got five guys heading in the direction of this stacked-away money, each encountering oddballs along the way, each trying to reach the location before the others so he can claim the full amount himself.

What’s refreshing about Dhamaal is the fact that it doesn’t fall into any of the traps that recent hits in the comic genre – Partner and Heyy Babyy succumbed to – it’s not vulgar, it isn’t full of sexist jokes, the dialogues aren’t stupid, and you don’t feel like the gags are being stretched out endlessly.

Having said that, let’s not get too carried away and put either the director or the writers on a pedestal just yet, because Dhamaal is after all a rather blatant rip-off of the evergreen Hollywood hit, It’s A Mad Mad Mad Mad World.

Dhamaal works primarily because it’s a cleverly written film that moves briskly from one gag to another, leaving you with hardly any time in between to stop and ponder.

And although you can trace back several of the jokes to popular American films like Starsky & Hutch, Road Trip and even the Mr Bean TV series, it’s the manner in which these jokes come together in the screenplay that deserves credit.

Video : Meri Duniya Song From Heyy Babyy

Filed under: Bollywood Latest Releases - 06 Sep 2007

Check out this nice song, Meri Duniya from Heyy Babyy. The song shows how Akshay Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh and Fardeen Khan turn from casanovas to caring fathers in Heyy Babyy . A well choreographed song, Meri Duniya is totally in sync with the films plot. And very pleasant to the ears too.
