Sajid Nadiadwala : From Spot Boy To Producer

Sajid Nadiadwala, one of Bollywood's biggest producer, speaks about his journey from being a spot boy to Dharmendra to producing Bollywood's biggest films. Sajid has produced some of Bollywood's biggest films, namely Judwaa, Mujhse Shaadi Karogi, Jaan-E-Mann and the recent flick Heyy Babyy. Here is Sajid Nadiadwala reminiscing his journey. Read on.... It seems that when you were a child, you had least interest in films. How did it happen then? Trust me, that’s a suspense story even for me. I guess it was in was in my blood. As a child, I was a complete bookworm. I did my law and IIS and was waiting for my exams. I wanted to be an executive officer. I used to spend time in libraries and would keep myself away from films. My connection with Hindi films was limited to just viewing them. Then how did you land up being a producer? In 1984, I was waiting for my IIS results and during that time my uncles Habib Nadiadwala and Farooq Nadiadwala were producing a film called Gulami. My dad asked me to help them for a while. So, I used to be Dharmendra’s spot boy and Sangeeta Bijlani’s driver. I was considered glamorous spot boy, and Dharamji started calling me grandson. He knew my grandfather Abdul Karim Nadiadwala and also my father Suleman Nadiadwala. So, he would fondly call me grandson. Following him, everyone started calling me by that name. Our family has been into this since 1955, my grandfather produced Shakti Samanta’s film Inspector. Do you remember your first day as a spot boy? I don’t remember the first day as a spot boy, but my second film with them was Hatiyaar. The call time for Dharamji was at 5 am and it was the first day of shooting. We were shooting near the parking area of Gaiety cinema in Bandra. I was asked to take permission from the local cops for the shooting. I took permission from one area, but director JP Dutta wanted to shoot the scene from other side of the road, which fell into another police station’s jurisdiction. I didn’t have the necessary permission letters with me, so I went up to him and explained that he could take the shot from the side where we had permission. He screamed at me, ‘Who is the director of the film?’ I was so scared that I ran inside Dharamji’s make up van and didn’t come out the whole day! So, that’s how you have learnt as a producer that never to interfere in a director’s work? To an extent, I did learn a lot from my experience. When I decided to launch my own company, I was very sure that I would fight with the director on the script level, but would not interfere once he starts shooting. I think, shooting a film is the easiest part. How did you think of starting your production house and why such a weird name for a company? I named it Nadiadwala Grandson, because people used to call me by that name. I didn’t even realise that slowly I was getting involved in the business of cinema. I was just 21 years old when I decided that I will start my own company.

Celebrity Chat With Kangna Ranaut

Filed under: Interviews with Bollywood Stars - 2,422 views

Kangana Ranaut has made a mark for her self in Bollywood. She drew appreciation for her debut performance in Gangster folowed by roles in Woh Lamhe. She received flak for her performance in Shaka Laka Boom Boom but came back with a bang with her role in Life In A Metro. Here is an interview of Kangana Raut where she talks about her realtionship with Aditya Pancholi, clarifies about her misunderstanding with the Bhatt Camp,  about silicon boobs and more.. Why have you often refrained from speaking to the media? Do you have an attitude problem? There's so much to ask you... I am a lonely person. I don't exchange numbers. I keep to myself. Attitude comes to a person who has fame and money. I have neither (pauses). Okay, shoot. Today, I will talk. Many Bollywood heroines are game to the surgeon's knife for silicone boobs. Your take on that? They are also going in for silicone hips, and not to forget, collagen lips. These girls feel that this is the best way to attract men and become a sex symbol. Little do they realise that it has an adverse effect on health. I have heard men talking about big boobs and big ass. I want to ask men. What matters to them- a nice pair of boobs or a girl with a nice nature? I will never get carried away. You still seeing Aditya Panscholi? I was never seeing Aditya Panscholi. You were staying either in his flat with his family, or in a flat given by him? No. Since two years, I have been staying in a 1-BHK at Yari Road. Few months back, I purchased a 3-BHK on Turner Road in Bandra. I will be shifting there in a month or two. How can I stay in a married man's house? Does this mean that you stay alone? I used to stay alone. But now my younger sister from Dehradun has moved in with me. Did Aditya become very possessive about you at one point? Those police complaints that you hadfiled against each other... (Interrupts) It is very difficult to make anybody understand. There are some bonds which one can't be given names and explained. He was a genuine friend. He promoted you in Bollywood? There was no way that he could promote me. You are still in touch with him? No. It ended. But I am sure that we are there for each other if we need any help. Shiney gave you acting tips in Woh Lamhe and Gangster, and you got pissed off? No, Shiney did not give me any acting tips.

Video : The Chak De Girls Speak About Chak De India and More…

Shimit Amin has hit the bull's eye with Chak De India. Shahrukh Khan has surely done a great job as the hockey coach , but credit for the film's success should also go to the Chak De India hockey girls. 16 girls who were all relatively new to the big screen surely made a big impact on the big screen with Chak De India. The sincerity and hard work they put into their work surely could be seen in their performances. Each one of them was a gem but the one's that shone more brilliantly than the others were the Punjab Ki Beti,Balbir Kaur (Tanya Abrol) , the small dynamite Komal Chautala (Chitrashi Rawat), the schemer Bindya Nair (Shilpa Shukla)and the hot- high on attitude Preeti Sabharwal (Sagarika Ghatge). Chak De Girls So here is a bit about the Chak De girls. Watch the videos of their interviews and enjoy!!!

Ram Gopal Verma has beeen having hard luck at the box office. James, Shiva and Nishabd were all duds at the box office. Was Sarrkar his last hit? I guess so. But Ram Gopal Verma is not a man who is deterred by commercial failure. He has huge expectations from his dream project : Ram Gopal Verma Ki Aag, a movie inspired from Indian Cinema's biggest blockbuster film, Sholay. "The original Sholay created an excitement by giving the audience one slammer of a scene after another. I hope to do the same," Varma says. Video : Katrina And Lara Dutta On Koffee With Karan

The sweet Katrina Kaif and the dashing Lara Dutta added a certain charm to the sets of Koffee With Karan last Sunday. Katrina was at her diplomatic best. When asked about her relationship with actor Salman Khan, katrina refused to comment and went on to say some crap about Cancerian people that had Karan completely confused. While Lara Dutta was rather cautious learning from the mistakes she made on the last season of Koffee With Karan. Though Katrina gave a good fight for the coveted Coffee Hamper it was Lara Dutta who took the goodies home, leaving a rather annoyed Katrina. Here are some videos of the Koffee With Karan episode of Katrina Kaif and Lara Dutta. Watch and enjoy ....

Koffee With Karan : Lara Dutta And Katrina Kaif

Filed under: Bollywood News,Interviews with Bollywood Stars - 12,639 views

Seems the sets of Koffee With Karan are going to get illuminated. No me not talking about any changes in the lighting techniques. It is just the beauty of Bollywood's two hottest beauties Lara Dutta and Katrina Kaif that will brighten up the sets of Koffee With Karan. Here are excerpts from the chat with Karan and Bollywood starlets Katrina Kaif and Lara Dutta : Karan: Welcome back Lara Lara Dutta: Thanks Karan… I was hoping you have me back actually… I was a little worried when I got your call… Karan: Last time, we had such a fun time with you and Bipasha… did I get you into trouble? Lara Dutta: Yes… tremendously… it has taken me a whole year to undo… all the problems I caused myself… Karan: You are looking absolutely stunning… why do I feel you are suddenly raring to go? Lara Dutta: Because I probably am… its taken me about 3 and a half years to find my footing in the industry… to find out what I like doing … the kind of cinema that I like being part of… the kind of people that I like doing work with… I think once you have that in place… you start feeling a little more confident about yourself… Karan: You just said some wonderful things about Amisha Patel last time? Lara Dutta: It’s all your fault Karan: What did I do? I just used my good old friend… the liometer…you just kept the spilling the beans… Now of course… it’s long forgotten… you and Amisha don’t cross paths anymore Lara Dutta: Actually, I did meet her at your birthday party… all this has to do with you Karan: And what happened when you met her? Lara Dutta: She was really sweet… really lovely … and you know something. Karan: you felt terrible Lara Dutta: I felt terrible after the show anyway… and I think immaturity and being caught up in the moment make you do a lot of things Karan: But, it’s ok… it’s all part of the past…. Karan: Lara any problems with anybody at all… or things are fine? Lara Dutta: No, things are fine… Karan: Well, in the beginning there were… you know, you had your so-called war with Priyanka… Lara Dutta: You know, I think the media needs a new bakra every couple of years… so, initially it was Sush and Ask and then it was Priyanka and me… and now it’s Sonam and Deepika… Karan: Deepika… yes… Sonam and Deepika… Karan: What happens Lara, in this industry when you get attached or you have rumors and controversies about you with leading men, which is not true. How does that place you? Lara Dutta: You know what happens Karan… is that the media keeps falling for the same time-tested ploy, time and time again and every time there is a film releasing, the makers of the film or the publicists or whoever decide that it would be so exciting to spread these rumors that the two leading male and female stars are having a scene with each other and the media keeps falling for it again and again. All it does is, it garners publicity for a film. Once the film is out and done with, you’re linked to the next co-star you're working with!

Nisha Kothari Talks About RGV Ke Aag

Filed under: Interviews with Bollywood Stars - 4,021 views

Ram Gopal Verma surely does have fascination with his female heroines. First it was Urmila, then Antara Mali and now it is Nisha Kothari. After casting her in James, he gave her another film Shiva. Unfortunately both the movies bombed at the box office. Ramu  also provided her with a blink and you'll  miss role in Sarkar. But now Ram Gopal Verma has provided Nisha Kothari a role of a life time in his next film, RGV Ke Aag. Providing Nisha Kothari the role of Basanti that Hema Malini has immortalised, surely Ram Gopal Verma has given Nisha Kothari a huge responsibility and a big chance too to establish her career. Only time will tell whether Nisha gets to even a shade closer to Hema Mailini's performance from Sholay. Here's an interview of the confident Nisha Kothari as she speaks to Rajnee Gupta. Q: How different is the character Ghungroo from the original Basanti? A: Ghungroo is a totally versatile character and her facial expressions change with every scene. She is the tapori type who does not care about anyone and is highly impressed by superhero Rajnikant. She loves Laila, the autorickshaw that she drives and is addicted to bidis. You can say that Basanti and Ghungroo have the same flavour, but their attitudes and looks are very different. The viewers will not say that my character is similar to Basanti. Q: Do you feel Ghungroo will be as popular as Basanti? A: That can be known only after the movie's release. For example, Samba was a small character in Sholay but he has become immortal. I have done my best in Aag, now the viewers will decide. Q: How was the experience of working with so many actors? A: I have learnt a lot from all the actors in this film. It has helped me grow as a person. Q: Any interesting incident on the sets that you can recall? A: I have a bad memory, so I cannot recall any such incident.

Nisha Kothari
