Anil Kapoor takes on the mantle of a producer with Gandhi My Father. The movie deals with the enstranged relationship between Mahathma Gandhi and his son Harilal. As the tag line of the film goes : “To The Nation He Was A father But To His Son He Was A Father He Never Had”. The films promos appear interesting but lets see how the critics judged the film. Here is a list of reviews of Gandhi My Father from some of Bollywood’s top critics.
Rajeev Masand : “Much effort’s gone into the making of this film and that’s evident throughout, but the film suffers from that inevitable flaw that is eventually what you’ll remember about it when you leave the cinema - it’s just so boring.”
Movie Rating : 2/5
Taran Adarsh : ” A landmark film in all respects, highlighting a scene or two would be doing gross injustice to the film. For, every sequence has the power to keep you hooked and most importantly, carries the stamp of a genius. ”
Movie Rating : 4/5
Syed Ashraf : “Overall, the film has its share of gut-wrenching moments at the plight of a son with ‘Gandhi’ attached to his name. The film is worth a watch for its brave attempt to paint another picture of the Mahatma, not found in our history books.”
Movie Rating : 3/5

After a lousy Dus that managed to make money at the box ofice comes Anubhav Sinha’s second action packed thriller Cash. So how does Anubhav Sinha manage to do with his second action venture? Is this movie worth a watch or is it one of those high on style and low on story movie? Read on to know…..
Cash Movie Story
I wonder why Bollywood is so attracted to robbery of diamonds. If you have to rob something, then it’s got to be diamonds. I wonder why? The story of Cash involves around a diamond heist. Ajay Devgan, Riteish Deshmukh, Zayed Khan have been given a task of robbing a rare diamond by Suneil Shetty and Dia mirza. Shamita Shetty is a police officer who is in love with Ajay Devgan. So the movie revolves around how the trio of robbers manage to rob the diamonds and their escape from the police.
Cash : Movie Review
Anubhav Sinha has looked in to every minute detail of Cash as far as the cinematography, the action scenes and the style is concerned. But guess he has forgotten to add the most important ingredients to his masala recipe : Screenplay, Editing and Story are bad to say the least.
The production values of Cash are A class. The action director, Anthony Stone, has done a good job. The scene where Ajay fights off the guys who eve-tease Shamita, the boat chase of Zayed and the car chasing scenes are totally top notch and manage to thrill you. The animation scenes are also visually brilliant but look out of place in the movie. Nonetheless a innovative concept. The background score of Cash by Vishal Shekhar is great and has your adrenaline rushing.

Small budget films generally tend to surprise you pleasantly. Take the case of last year’s Khosla Ka Ghosla or this year’s hilarious Bheja Fry. A strong story and great performance subdues the effects of a small budget.
Bow Barracks Forever is another such film . By “such” I mean a small budget film. So will Bow Barracks Forever surprise us pleasantly or give us a rude shock? Here’s what the critics have to say.
Rajeev Masand : ” Based on what is undeniably an interesting premise, Bow Barracks Forever loses much of its appeal because of its amateurish direction. Cliches are strewn around the film generously where there was need for none.”
Movie Rating : 2/5
Meetu : “Unfortunately, the screenplay and the dialogues make this a drag to watch. Thirty minutes shorter and the movie would improve on both counts, because inevitably all the repetitive lines would have to see the door.”
Movie Rating : 3/5
Sukanya Verma : “As you walk out the theatre, you wonder what does the film really say? It doesn’t really answer any questions it raises or solve any problems. Until when it does, in a manner so implausible, it loses credibility. All Bow Barracks Forever! does is add ‘man’, ‘bugger’ and ‘bloody’ to your vocabulary.”

Thrillers and Abbas Mustan both need to be said in the same breathe. Both are rather synonymous to each other. Abbas Mustan the director duo are Bollywood’s thriller masters. But that’s nothing to be proud of. Infact it’s a shame that we do not have better thriller makers in Bollywood. And I mean it. Apart from Baazigar and Khiladi (to some extent), the duo haven’t been able to create an above average film to date.
Add some romance, sprinkle some comedy, mix it with hit songs and ya do not forget the time to time dash of some cheap thrills. Lo Behold…. you’ve got an Abbas Mustaan film.
Naqaab too follows the same recipe. There is a lot of romance, comedy is tried but sans Johnny Lever and so it’s as good as no comedy. There are some thrills and yes there is that last minute, “Oh My Ghosh!” twist. The music of Naqaab will surely go into the worst music of an Abbas Mustaan film. Abbas Mustaan infact are a brand when it comes to delivering hit music and infact all their films have had superhit tracks. But the music of Naqaab disappoints barring Ek Din, none of the songs rise above the normal stuff.
Naqaab Movie Story
If you feel Naqaab is similar toAbbas Mustaan’s earlier hit Humraaz, then now is the time to get rid of all your premonitions. Barring the fact that both the movie are thrillers and triangular love stories, the two films are as different as chalk and cheese.Rich boy( Bobby Deol) falls in love with poor girl(Urvashi Sharma) and their couple is of the made in heaven type. Suddenly Akshaye Khanna spots Urvashi at a party and he falls for her. After some initial resistance Urvashi too realises that she loves Akshaye and not Bobby. Then begins a game of deceit and revenge leading to a rather strong culmination.

Ohhhhhhh Huzzzzzooooooorrrrrr …. it’s time for Himesh to don the cap of an actor. With Aap Ka Surroor Himesh tries his hands at acting. The music director who brought nasal singing to the fore front will now play the lead role in Aap Ka Suroor. Mallika Sherawat and debutante Hansika Motwani form the beauty quotient of the film. So will Himesh be able to gain popularity as an actor as he has done as a music director?
Let’s see what the critics have to say about Aap Ka Surroor– The Movie. But whatever they say youmust appreciate the guts of Himesh Reshammiya to take on the big screen.
Rashmi Bansal : ” You have to applaud the guts of this guy. Who would ever let a guy with lips like used chappal rubber appear on screen, as a hero? Himesh does it.”
Movie Rating : 4/5
Aparajita Ghosh : ” On the whole, ‘Aap Ka Surroor’ is worth a watch if you are a Reshammiya fan. The film’s story interweaves romance, mystery and thrills in a way that will appeal to the masses. ”
Movie Rating : 2.5/5
Gautam Chintamani : ” The film seems disjointed and it’s evident that the people behind it just wanted to cash on the Himesh wave. Why else would nicely photographed songs be separated by an inanity trying to masquerade as a script? ”
Movie Rating : 2.5/5

The Deols come together for the first time on the big screen and the man who provides them with the pedestal to come on screen is none other than Anil Sharma, the man who gave Sunny Deol the hit Gadar. As far as their careers are concerned the Deols are going through a rough patch. Bobby’s last two movies Jhoom Barabar Jhoom and Shaka Laka Boom Boom bombed at the box office. Sunny was last seen on screen for the movie Big Brother. The movie went off the theatres as soon as it came up.
So now will the Deols be able to redeem themselves through a synergetic process in the form of Apne? Let’s see what the critics have to say .
Vaibhav Wankhade : “Three words come to mind immediately when asked to comment on APNE - Flat, Contrived and Yaaaawwwwn!”
Movie Rating : 2/5
Rajeev Masand : “ Sadly, Apne has no great story. In fact, it’s a melodramatic piece that’s about thirty years too late.
Movie Rating : 1/5
Taran Adarsh : “ To sum up, APNE is desi at heart and holds appeal for those who swear by desi flicks. A worthy effort nonetheless!”
Movie Rating : 3.5/5
Sukanya Verma : ” But despite all its glaring oddities and palpable flaws, Apne has its heart in place.”
Movie Rating : 3/5

Awarapan is another one of Vishesh Films productions. Generally Vishesh Films makes low budget content oriented films with small stars and manage to deliver hits out of them. Emraan Hashmi the favorite hero of the Bhatt’s is playing the lead while Sivaji star Shriya plays his love interest. Also Awarapan marks the debut of Mrinalni Sharma.
Kalyug, Zeher and Woh Lamhe …. Mohit Suri has improved as a director with each film. So will he keep his growing potential as a director with Awarapan? Will Vishesh Films be able to deliver another hit? Lets see what the critics have to say about Awarapan.
Rajeev Masand : ” Awarapan is actually quite engaging. What strikes you about the film from the moment the lights go out is the stylishness with which its been shot.”
Movie Rating : 3/5
Taran Adarsh : ” Choosing an interesting story is difficult. But doing justice to the story is nothing short of an achievement. AWARAPAN, directed by Mohit Suri, gets it right on both the levels — on paper first, on celluloid later.”
Movie Rating : 3.5/5
Subash K. Jha : ” The volatile music score (Pritam Chakbraborty) and the skilful interweaving of deftly cut scenes which glow with the flow, make Awarapan a cut-above-the-notch viewing.”

Chain Kulli Ki Main Kulii stars Bollywood’s most credible actor Rahul Bose and 13-year old child artiste called Zain Khan. Chain Kulli Ki Main Kulli does seem fun from its trailers . Does Chain Kullii write a new chapter in children’s films made in Bollywood or does it add onto the growing list of bad films that are being doled out recently? So let’s check out what the critics have to say.
Taran Adarsh : “In a nutshell, CHAIN KULII KI MAIN KULII isn’t great cinema. Conversely, it’s not a below-the-mark movie-going experience either. It floats somewhere in between.”
Movie Rating : 1.5/5
Rajeev Masand : ” For the most part, I have to confess, Chain Kulii Ki Main Kulii is engaging because it’s simple and because it doesn’t really digress from its plot.”
Movie Rating : 2/5
Meetu : ” So, plan of action for the weekend - take the kids to the theater while you stay out looking for some other form of entertainment to alternate between loo and fag breaks. ”

Rajeev Masand : “Jhoom Barabar Jhoom has a superhit soundtrack, it’s sensationally choreographed and has excellent camerawork, but it’s still a film with a plot that just doesn’t work.”
Movie Rating : 2/5
Raja Sen : ” The first half is merely, mindnumbingly boring, while the second gets exasperating. And it’s all so inanely wasteful.”
Movie Rating : 1.5/5
Aparajita Ghosh : ” It may fall a wee bit short of the high expectations that were attached to it, but ‘Jhoom Barabar Jhoom’ verily delivers what it promises – unadulterated entertainment.”
Movie Rating : 3/5
Deep : “Leaving songs and few good scenes apart, whole movie was total nonsense.”
Movie Rating : 1.5/5
Taran Adarsh : ” On the whole, JHOOM BARABAR JHOOM is no patch on Yash Raj’s illustrious films. The film is all gloss, no substance. Body beautiful, minus soul. ”
Movie Rating : 1.5/5

Fool N Final directed by Ahmed Khan is supposed to be a comedy film. The movie has a huge star cast of Sunny Deol, Shahid Kapur, Vivek Oberoi, Paresh Rawal, Johnny Lever, Ayesha Takia and Sameera Reddy. The movie revolves around the pursuit of diamonds by its principal star cast and appears to be a “leave your brains at home” kind of flick. So will Ahmed Khan be able to leave behind his first failure Lakeer and start his directorial career with a hit in Fool N Final? Doles it work or doesnt it…..

Movie Rating : 1.5/5
Rajeev Masand : “Films like Fool N Final are the perfect example of exactly what’s wrong with Hindi cinema today.”
Movie Rating : 0/5
Tanveer Bookwala : “The movie is completely foolish, and that’s final.”
Movie Rating : 1/5
Indya.com : “Ahmed Khan relies more on a stylized presentation than packing in the right elements to make you sit through two and a half hours”
Movie Rating : 2/5
