Anurag Kashyap is a happy man. While his movies have always achieved critical acclaim, they have not necessarily sent the cash registers ringing. But with Gangs Of Wasseypur, Anurag Kashyap has managed to prove that he can make commercially successful films as well. The movie has managed to collect Rs. 17 crores in its first week only.
“We thought that people were liking the film, but in the first three days, we didn’t collect so much. But even that has been the biggest of my life. The kind of film this is and the kind of actors there are, the collection was big,” Anurag Kashyap said at the success party of the film.
Talking about crossing 100 crores at the box office, “100 crore is too much of an expectation. If it happens, it is good. All I want is whoever has worked in the film should earn a lot of money. It is a film where barring Manoj, people don’t know anyone. In addition, the film had everything going against it – the two parts, one part being an incomplete story, the kind of language and adult certificate. People see the negative points more. So, even if we don’t cross Rs 100 crore, it is fine with us,” he said.

Gangs of Wasseypur was originally a 5 hour long film. Instead of cutting it, the makers decided to break it up into two parts. The second part – Gangs of Wasseypur 2, is set to release on 8th August. The first look trailer of GOW 2 has already got positive reviews, and looks like Anurag Kashyap has yet another winner on his hands.
