News around Shilpa Shetty just doesn’t stop flowing. And this time the buzz is about a doctor’s degree that has been conferred upon Shilpa Shetty by the Leeds University for her outstanding contribution to cultural diversity.

The University has, in the past, honoured prominent Indian personalities who contributed to India’s emergence as a fast developing cinema-proud nation during its 60th year of freedom struggle, a spokeswoman of the University said.

Mangalore-born Shilpa Shetty is the youngest actor from the Indian film fraternity to join ranks of Amitabh Bachchan, Shabana Azmi and Yash Chopra who have been earlier chosen for the honour.

Ok the reasons why Amitabh, Shabana and Yashji have been conferred with a doctorate degree can be understood. But Shilpa Shetty for “cultural diversity”? I am just plain amused, even by the  thought of it.

No we are not talking about Urmila or Antara or Nisha here . Darling is just the next film of Ram Gopal Verma, that is going to be released. Under all the hype and hoolah over Ram Gopal Verma’s Sholay ( or Aag), RGV brings out another movie Darling, that was well no where in the news.

Directed by Ram Gopal Verma, Darling is a romantic thriller that stars Fardeen Khan, Esha Deol and Isha Kopikar in the main lead.

Aditya (Fardeen Khan) is living every man’s dream. He’s got a beautiful, traditional wife (Isha Koppikar) at home and a stunning wildcat girlfriend (Esha Deol) at work. Balancing the two women with clever lies, he gets to experience the best of both worlds.

The going is good. Till his girlfriend shocks him with the news that she is pregnant. Aditya is cornered. He has to confess to her that he cannot leave his wife as he has been promising her all along. His girlfriend is devastated. She flies into a rage. A brutal fight ensues, in which she accidentally dies.

Terrified, Aditya disposes of her body and returns home, thinking that the worst is behind him. But he couldn’t be more wrong. For the nightmare has only just begun. His wild girlfriend is back as a ghost. And she will stop at nothing till she gets her revenge…

Seems that Shah Rukh Khan is all set to give a totally no holds barred life time performance in Chak De India. Shah Rukh surely looks every bit, Kabir Khan, the character that he is playing in the movie. The way he echoes out I-N-D-I-A, emphasising on each letter, makes you realise why SRK is referred to as the Badshah of the Bollywood film industry.

Chak De India also introduces as many as 17 new girls in this hockey based film. So Shah Rukh surely has got a load of responsibility on his shoulders.

Salim Sulaiman’s music seems to be bang on target. The Kuch Kariye song not only is filled with a patriotic feel to it. But also is a highly motivational song which drives you to put your best foot forward for your country.

Looks like Chak DE India is going to rock….. and i see the distributors of the film smiling gleefully already.

 The casting couch syndrome is quite a silent monster in the Bollywood industry. Everyone knows it exists but no one barring a few are ready to divulge details about it or are bold enough to talk about it. But recently in an interview to Zee news, noted Bollywood singer Sonu Nigam expressed his frustation and anger on being sexually harassed by Subash Jha.

In an exclusive interview with Zee News, Sonu Nigam dramatically spilled the can of dirty worms of our entertainment fraternity that is well known for it’s homosexual connections.

Fed up with continuous lewd calls and mobile text messages, Nigam came in front of the television cameras and named a renowned senior entertainment journalist, Subhash K Jha, who is a well-known figure in the Bollywood circle.

Sonu Nigam said, “He used to harass me with his homosexual desires to an extent that my family was affected. We all know that the film industry consists of many gays and homosexuals. Even I have many gay friends but they have never tried to come close to me because they know that I am not interested in it. But in this case, he used to send me weird messages and talk nonsense on the phone.”

Elaborating about an incident that took place when Nigam was a part of the Indian Idol judge panel, he said, “He was calling Farah Khan and Anu Malik during an Indian Idol show. I was a little busy so I didn’t receive his call. Later, Jha called me up again and said that he loved me a lot, so I should pick up his call.”

Talking about the usual film industry struggle, Sonu accepted that many young actors and musicians are asked to go through different favours. He said, “During my struggle days, I used to meet many song composers but luckily nothing like this happened with me. Young actors and models do go through all these favours.”

Speaking about a particular incident when Jha proposed him, Nigam said, “In 2001, he proposed me and said that he loves me. He even misbehaved with me after getting drunk but later apologised in the morning. I even told him that you are Lataji’s friend and elder to me so please don’t talk such things with me as I’m not gay. But he still continued harassing me with his calls.”

Are you among the few unlucky who watched Naqaab. If you loved Naqaab, then guess I cann’t do any much about it. I guess most of you hated the film. But, I’m sure how much ever you hated the film you might have applauded the twist towards the end and the rather stunning suspense. You must be wondering, how could these thoughts come from Indian writers. Surely the Naqaab story has an Hollywood feel to it. Then I must say, you are absolutely right.

Naqaab is nothing but a blatant copy of a suspense Hollywood thriller “Dot The I”. Watch this trailer of Dot The I and you shall realise the extent to which Naqab has been copied. If you have watched Naqaab you shall realise that scenes have merely been translated from Dot The I to Naqaab. What A Shame.

I will try and rent a copy of “Dot The I”  and see what exactly went wrong with Naqaab. Now when you  translate a hit film in another language then how can you make such a flop film. That’s two thumbs down to Abbas Mustaan.

Thrillers and Abbas Mustan both need to be said in the same breathe. Both are rather synonymous to each other. Abbas Mustan the director duo are Bollywood’s thriller masters. But that’s nothing to be proud of. Infact it’s a shame that we do not have better thriller makers in Bollywood. And I mean it. Apart from Baazigar and Khiladi (to some extent), the duo haven’t been able to create an above average film to date.

Add some romance, sprinkle some comedy, mix it with hit songs and ya do not forget the time to time dash of some cheap thrills. Lo Behold…. you’ve got an Abbas Mustaan film.

Naqaab too follows the same recipe. There is a lot of romance, comedy is tried but sans Johnny Lever and so it’s as good as no comedy. There are some thrills and yes there is that last minute, “Oh My Ghosh!” twist. The music of Naqaab will surely go into the worst music of an Abbas Mustaan film. Abbas Mustaan infact are a brand when it comes to delivering hit music and infact all their films have had superhit tracks. But the music of Naqaab disappoints barring Ek Din, none of the songs rise above the normal stuff.

If you feel Naqaab is similar toAbbas Mustaan’s earlier hit Humraaz, then now is the time to get rid of all your premonitions. Barring the fact that both the movie are thrillers and triangular love stories, the two films are as different as chalk and cheese.Rich boy( Bobby Deol) falls in love with poor girl(Urvashi Sharma) and their couple is of the made in heaven type. Suddenly Akshaye Khanna spots Urvashi at a party and he falls for her. After some initial resistance Urvashi too realises that she loves Akshaye and not Bobby. Then begins a game of deceit and revenge leading to a rather strong culmination.

Indian Idol, the first  talent hunt show that not only gave singers a platform to exhibit their talent but also provided them with unparallelled fame and  money ( a 1 crore contract). The first Indian Idol, Abhijeet Sawant broke all records with his debut album Aap Ka Abhijeet. The other singers too like Prajakta Shukre, Amit Sana and Rahul Vaidya also released their albums which struck gold.

But unfortunately the succees of Indian Idol 1 couldn’t be carried forward by Indian Idol 2. Not only were the singers in the show lacking the charm of an Indian Idol but also the show too lacked it’s inherent charm.

But now Indian Idol is back and it’s back with a bang. Firstly the judges ( barring Anu Malik) have been changed. Javed Akthar, Alisha and Udit Narayan have inculcated a breath of fresh air into the show. Secondly the jodi of the anchors of Indian Idol 3 ( Mini Mathur and Hussain) look dashing and provide a new found charm to the show. But most importantly the contestants this time are  young, confident and full of youthful exuberance. Yes and most importantly great singers.Each contestant has his/her own individuality and can be related to.

Seems like Bipasha has suddenly got international fame. First she gets to represent India at the New Seven Wonders Of The World Ceremony and then she is caught kissing soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo at the post party celebrations.

Speaking about her meeting with soccer super star Cristiano Ronaldo, Bipasha says, “I was like a fan to begin with. But after we bonded, we just became two individuals bonding as buddies over an important international event. We’re pals now. If I ever have to see a football game, all I’ve to do is ask Cristiano,” she added.

Ironically Bipasha became a football fan ever since she met John. “I’ve been Cristiano’s fan for five years. I haven’t yet told John the details of my partying with Cristiano. I will as soon as he returns from his outdoors.”

Revealing the details, she said, “I felt like a princess. He gave me so many compliments. He danced with me throughout the night. There were 50,000 jealous women staring at us. I must’ve got so much Portuguese bud-dua (bad wishes) that night. The local girls wanted to murder me. Now he wants to e-mail me regularly.”

During dinner, Cristiano told Bipasha that he was a big fan of Bollywood. “I thought he was just trying to be sweet. I told him he didn’t have to say he liked Bollywood films just to please me.

I had warned you guys before. And now the death bell has rung and its sound is reverbating everywhere. Himesh Reshammiya has decided that he shall act in three more filmsfollowing the success of Aap Ka Surroor. After the great opening that Aap Ka Suroor got, Himesh started getting a large number of offers from masala film-makers to act in their films. But thankfully Himesh has decided not to take on all the films. But instead he shall be taking three films on which he will work with full dedication.

Seems like Indian women have affinity towards the lips of foreign men or vice versa. The Shilpa Shetty – Richard Gere controversy had barely died down and here pops another kissing controversy. Replacing Richard Gere is star footballer Cristiano Ronaldo and Bipashu Basu takes Shilpa Shetty’s place.

Bipasha Basu was present at Lisbon for the announcement of The New Seven Wonders Of The World Ceremony, representing India’s Taj Mahal. Seems Taj Mahal’s entry into the new seven wonders got Bipasha all intoxicated with joy and the result was for all to see.

The post party at Lisbon after the Seven Wonders ceremony saw Bipasha Basu up close and personal with Portugese footballer Ronaldo. The two were caught on camera in a rather “compromising position”.

The Daily Star on Tuesday ran a front-page picture of Portuguese footballer Cristiano Ronaldo, 22, kissing Bipasha, 28, in Lisbon where they’d gone for the Seven Wonders show recently.

The picture — titled Ronaldo Plays Away — was taken on stage when the two were naming Mexico’s Chichen Itza pyramid as one of the new Wonders.

According to the Daily Star, the two were spotted later in the evening at a party at the Belem Club getting physical with each other. Cristiano Ronaldo is reported to be in a relationship with glamour model Gemma Atkinson.

Another tabloid, Metro, ran a similar story and picture titled Are You Playing Away, Cristiano? The Mirror and The Sun have also carried the story with the same photograph.
