First Look : Gandhi My Father

Anil Kapoor’s home production Gandhi My Father, directed by well known theatre person Feroze Khan is based on a man who shares a troubled relationship with his father. The father, by the way  happens to be none other than Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi.

In the shadows of the Great Man (M.K. Gandhi) lived his eldest son, Harilal Gandhi. Once a follower of his father’s ideals, a rift formed between the two when father denied son the opportunity to study law in Great Britain. Harilal left his father in South Africa and returned to India determined to make it on his own. Instead he spent years roaming the streets like a beggar, converting to Islam as an act of rebellion, converting back to Hinduism as penance and finally drinking himself to death. Five months after the death of Mahatma Gandhi, Harilal Gandhi, died as a destitute, alone in a hospital in Bombay.

 Gandhi My father is a true and fascinating story. It’s about the relationship of Gandhi with his eldest son, Harilal. The whole world knows about Gandhi and his work. Everyone knows about Kasturba Gandhi but nobody knows anything about their four sons- Harilal, Manilal, Devdas and Ramdas. No one knows about them. They have just been erased from the history. It’s a father- son story. Gandhi My father is a true and fascinating story about the relationship of Gandhi with his eldest son, Harilal.

I am playing Gandhi’s eldest son Harilal. The film showcases Gandhi’s relationship with him. It’s a very intimate and emotional film. There’s nothing fictional in this film. We will be lynched if there is any fiction in this film hence it is absolutely true to history. It is actually what has happened and so everyone is excited about this film.

I am dying to watch this movie. For all true movie fans I guess August 3rd is the day you must book your tickets for this flick.
