Desi Harry Potter

Filed under: Bollywood Gossip, Bollywood News - 16 May 2007

India has got it’s own Harry Potter. Or should we call him Hari Puttar.

There’s an Indian connection to Harry Potter and Dhaval Dave from Ahmedabad has been getting attention from people all around.

It is rightly so as he bears an uncanny resemblance to Daniel Radcliffe, the lead actor in the Harry Potter series.

Wherever he goes, he is mobbed by kids who want an autograph or a photograph with the desi Harry Potter.

“I was very excited when I saw him. I couldn’t believe Harry has come to Indore,” said a kid.

“I am very happy. Harry is my favourite hero,” added another.

Dhaval manages to delight not just kids but also adults, who are awestruck by his resemblance to the fictional character.

Video: Mallika Sherawat in Aap Ka Suroor

Mallika Sherawat has reportedly charged Rs. 1.5 crore for her 10 minutes act in Himesh Reshammiya’s Aap Ka Surroor.

Mallika plays the role of a vamp in the film, who tries to steal Himesh from the film’s heroine ( Hansika Motwani). Now 1.5 crore for a 10 minute role is quite big by any standards. So what made Mallika demand such a big amount? But more importantly why did the producers of Aap Ka Surroor agree to pay her that astronomical amount?

Video : Theatrical Promo Of Apne

Everytime I hear the title track of Apne, I like it even more. Apne has been in major news cause it has all three Deols ( Dharmendra, Sunny and Bobby) for the first time in a film. The movie seems to be the perfect Bollywood pot-boiler with all the elements of romance, comedy, action, family bonding. Apne is directed by Anil Sharma, of Gadar fame. Bobby and Sunny aren’t having a good run at the box office with both their recent films( Shaka Laka Boom Boom and Big Brother) bombing big time at the box office. So let’s wait and see whether Apne manages to bring good news for them.

Video : Mehfuz Rakhta Song From Apne

Here’s the first romantic song from Anil Sharma’s  Apne. The song resembles the mark of Himesh with the incessant nasal twang. As a matter of fact, I dd not quite enjoy the track, nr did i like the choreography. The only good thing is Katrina Kaif who is looking absolutely stunning as always. So watch the video of Mehfuz Rakhta Hoon and enjoy.

Pics: Rajkumar Santoshi’s Halla Bol

Rajkumar Santoshi’s Halla Bol has been making quite a buzz. The movie stars Ajay Devgan and Vidya Balan in the lead roles.

Halla Bol is a true life tale of a super star Samir Khan, a small town boy who has always had aspirations to make it big in tinsel town. After much struggle he gets a break in Bollywood and goes on to become a huge action hero.

But in the course of time, he forgets his humble beginnings. One day, a shocking incident occurs that  changes his outlook towards life.

Now, as his entire life hangs in the balance, he has to battle it out with his superstar image and his identity as a human being, which seems to have taken a back seat all this while.

Music of Halla Bol is given by Himesh Reshammiya .

Review : Life In A Metro

Life In A Metro Movie Review

Star Cast : Shiney Ahuja, Shilpa Shetty, Irrfan Khan, Konkana Sen Sharma, Kay Kay Menon, Kangna Ranaut, Sharman Joshi, Nafisa Ali, Dharmendra.

Movie Runtime : 140 min.

The film’s promos describe the movie as a story of countless emotions. Love, sex, faith, lies, lust, passion, ambition are some of the emotions that were portrayed by the protagonists. It’s a story of a bunch of 9 people, each trying to adjust themselves with the fast paced life of a Metro.

If you want to know the story, then check the movie trailer(below). Give your grey cells some stress and you shall get a basic idea of the movie.

Bollywood has tried it’s hand at movies with multiple paths all converging to form a single story in the end. I guess it started with Dil Vil Pyaar Vyaar ( a big flop), but as time progressed the film-makers became more intelligent in weaving many plots into one. Among all such movies I have watched, Naseer’s film Yun Hota To Kya Hota has been my favorite. But after watching Life In A Metro, Yun Hota… has been displaced to the second spot.

Life In A Metro by Anurag Basu ( of Murder and Gangster fame) is one of the better films of 2007. Both technically as well as script wise the movie is a good product. I always grumble, that unlike Hollywood films, where lot of pain goes into selecting the star cast, Bollywood film-makers barely spend time to get the star cast right. Any damn actor will do for them. But I must appreciate the makers of Metro for selecting a bunch of talented actors that fit their roles to the tee.

All the actors have done a fantastic job and credit must go to Anurag Basu for handling his team with such finesse. Each actor has been given ample scope to show his/her presence felt in the film. Basically all the actors are important and there is no single star. But if I were to list the actors and their performances by order of merit then it would go like :

Irrfan Khan : simply brilliant, marvelous. His best performance after Maqbool. Although his role is not too long, Irrfan just manages to mesmerize you with his acting. Irrfan’s character is a difficult one too have been played and Irrfan plays it with such adeptness, that not once does he go over board.

Konkona Sen Sharma : She does it everytime and in Metro she does it again. She simply bowls you down with her potrayal of a 30 year old virgin desperately in pursuit of a life a partner. Konkona’s strength is her sweet, innocent voice, you can never get bored of hearing her speak. The way she gets into the skin of her character is marvelous. You start relating with her from scene one itself.

Rakesh Roshan Talks On The Sequel To Krrish

Filed under: Interviews with Bollywood Stars - 12 May 2007

It’s official. Rakesh Roshan’s third super-hero film will have another major leading man besides Hrithik.

“This time the anti-hero will be as powerful as the hero,” explains Rakesh Roshan. “Krrish saw the birth of the super-hero. Now we’ll see the super-hero combating other forces,” he adds. In that sense, this would be the first Rakesh Roshan film since Karan Arjun to star a big actor in addition to Hrithik.

That isn’t the only unique career plan that the director is formulating. Rakesh Roshan is currently immersed in the task of creating his first production for an outside director. “Our first production, which I won’t direct, is a comedy that my assistant Raja Sen will direct. It’s a comedy called Krazy 4 (don’t miss the ‘k’!) with four main characters. The four principal characters are played by Irrfan Khan, Arshad Warsi, Rajpal Yadav and Suresh Menon. Dia Mirza plays the female lead. Raja Sen has been with me for the last three years and assisted me in three films.

Since I’m working on the third super-hero film, I let him do this script. We’ll finish Raja’s film before I start mine. Any film that comes from my banner has to be equally competent,” he says. Krrish 3 is being scripted now. “I can’t focus on more than one project at a time, Maybe that’s my weakness. We’re working on the script. The story has to be just right. The plot has to be inspiring. I’ve to get that gut feeling that the plot is right. The special effects aren’t the main thing. The plot is. Until I’m happy with that I won’t start Krrish 3.

Karan Has Koffee With The Kapoors

Filed under: Bollywood News, Interviews with Bollywood Stars - 12 May 2007

This Sunday will see the Kapoors enjoying their coffee on Koffee With Karan. The Kapoors are one jovial lot. So be prepared for full Dhamaal with Rishi Kapoor, Randhir Kapoor, Rajiv Kapoor, Reema Kapoor and Neetu Singh this Sunday. An episode you do not want to miss…….

Here are some excerpts from the interview with Karan Johar of the 5 Kapoors. Check it out and remember this is just the tip of the iceberg. Lots more fun on Sunday, 13th May at 9pm on Star One and Star World.

The Kappors on Koffeee With Karan

Karan Johar : You have a special relation with each and every one of them!

Neetu: Everyone. Especially Chimpu and Reema are my best friends… and Dabboo of course… I’ve worked with him in so many films.

Randhir: She’s my favorite heroine.

Rishi: Her first leading role as a heroine was with Dabboo.

Neetu: Yeah! Rickshawalla.

Karan Johar : But of course your more special bond has been with your husband. It’s been 27 years now.

Rishi: We were in 11 films together.

Karan Johar : Is there any particular moment you can think back to about just spending time with family. Anything that has moved you. Just left an indelible mark?

Neetu: I think we’re all very bonded Karan! We meet for lunches and for dinners and we don’t need outsiders because we’re self-sufficient and so happy with each other.

Randhir: At breakfast, we discuss lunch… at lunch we discuss what we’re having for dinner. That’s a typical Kapoor trait.

Neetu: We talk about food… and with so much of passion….

Kartan Johar : How come you don’t look anything like them Neetuji?

Rishi: I deprive her! I don’t give her anything to eat!

Neetu: And he says you sleep on a bed of nails. I enjoy doing this.

Rishi: She’s very disciplined.

Neetu: And that’s why my kids are disciplined and he’s also disciplined.

Randhir: Ya sure!

Neetu: Atleast now he takes care of what he’s eating.

Rishi: This is all puppy fat yaar!

Karan Johar : You won’t have it any other way? This is a special family to be a part of.

Neetu: Absolutely! Each and every one of them and the head is the Mother-in-law. She is wonderful and all the humor comes from her.
