Just Married Movie Review

Filed under: Bollywood Movie Reviews - 18 Mar 2007

Along with Hattrick, Just Married starring Fardeen Khan and Esha Deol hits the screens this Friday. Directed by Meghna Gulzar, the movie promises to be a family entertainer. But does Miss Gulzar manage to salvage some pride this time round with Just Married or is it another bore like her earlier Filhaal. Read the reviews from Bollywood’s top critics and decide for yoursel, whether you want to watch or skip this movie.

Taran Adarsh — ” The first hour is at least tolerable, but the second half goes down completely. The screenplay is devoid of drama and what you watch is a repetition and reflection of sequences that you watched in the first hour.”

Movie Rating - 1.5/5

Naomi Dutta  — ” It is just a pleasant plod which moves along sluggishly and inoffensively. You can watch this film - don’t expect a particularly memorable film but don’t expect a headache either!”

Movie Rating - 2.5/5

Ashok Nayak — “Meghna Gulzar tries hard to even make serious scenes look funny, but falls flat. As a writer too, she fails. The audience just cannot connect with the 2 lead characters of Just Married.”

Movie Rating - 1/5

Subash K. Jha — ” Perhaps… Just Married aims to portray marriage in mellow pastel colours. There are no over-the-top interludes, no moments in the film that the director’s mentors - Mukherjee and Gulzar - would frown at.  ”

Movie Rating - 2.5/5

Hattrick Movie Reviews From Critics Allover

Filed under: Bollywood Movie Reviews - 17 Mar 2007

Hattrick releases in theatres this week and plans to catch onto the ongoing World Cup fever. So will the plan give out good dividends or will it be a dampner at the Box Office? Read what critics all over have to say. Movietonic has its review of Hattrick, you can go read it. Check out these other reviews too, so that you can decide for yourself whether to watch it or skip it.

Amit — ” To all you cricket and non-cricket lovers, stay at home and watch a Scotland and Netherlands match, that shall be far more entertaining than watching Hattrick on the Big Screen.”

Rating - 3/10

Taran Adarsh — “On the whole, HATTRICK is an average product at best. At the box-office, it won’t score a century, nor will it be clean bowled at the start. It would somewhere be in the half-century range.”

Rating - 2/5

Meetu — ” There couldn’t have been a more generic story line. Replace cricket with any other obsession for the two cricket-crazy characters and the movie would be the same – awful.”

Rating - 1/5

Komal Mehta — “Hattrick is bearable but not half as entertaining as a cricket match would be. At the end of it, all you remember is that it had something to do with cricket.”

Rating - 2.5/5

Hattrick Movie Review

Filed under: Bollywood Movie Reviews - 17 Mar 2007

Barring Lagaan and to some extent Iqbal, cricket movies or for that matter sports related Bollywood films barely do well at the box-office. This week, Hattrick releases at the Box Office and it attempts to catch onto the World Cup Fever. So howz the movie? Is Hattrick worth a watch? Read on to know….

Storyline – Describing the story of Hattrick is a tough task, as Hattrick doesn’t have a story to offer in the first place. Anyway, I shall make an attempt. The name Hattrick comes from the fact that there are three stories running parellely through the film. Oh Wow, how creative. It must have surely taken a whole lot of geniuses to conjure up the title. Anyway enough of sarcasm, lets get back to the story.

Story 1 —- Dr. Satyajeet Chavan (Nana Patekar) is a strict disciplinarian, no-nonsense doctor who simply hates cricket. While David Abraham (Danny Denzongpa) is a cricketer who breathes and lives cricket. When Danny gets admitted to the hospital, he tries to break all the rules of the hospital in order to catch onto the Cricket World Cup. But Nana acts as a barrier between him and the television set. Nana will not allow a television set on his hospital’s premises and Danny will not stop until he gets to watch the World Cup. Who wins the battle Nana or Danny? You need not be a genius to answer that question. Ya, that’s about with the first story of Hattrick. And trust me this is the best story that the movie has to offer. So you can imagine what the rest of the stories will be like.

Story 2 —- Hemu Patel (Paresh Rawal) is one of those Indians who has left his homeland with dreams of a good living in England. But he manages to get the job of a sweeper in England and is utterly frustrated with his life. Now after living 10 years in England, his only dream is to get a U.K. Citizenship, so that he can get a better job and then go home proudly. This story of an “Indian Abroad” and his problems has been seen time and again on the silver screen. And there is nothing new that Hattrick showcases.

Nana Patekar gets Candid —-”I will be the last person to copy anybody”

Filed under: Interviews with Bollywood Stars - 15 Mar 2007

Ek Machchar Aadmi Ko Hijda Bana Deta Hai…Well, this is the famous dialogue from the not-so-famous film Yashwant that epitomized Nana Patekar brand of crowd pulling tricks. His unconventional acting style has been widely applauded in films like Ankush, Thoda Sa Roomani Ho Jayen, Salaam Bombay, Parinda, Agneesakshi, Krantiveer, Khamoshi – The Musical and the more recent Ab Tak Chappan, Bhoot, Bluff Master and Aparahan. In a freewheeling interview with IndiaFM, Patekar talks about his forthcoming film Hattrick and yes he is finally ready to turn a director again after the eminently watchable Prahaar.

Why did you sign Hattrick?
Because of the format of the film and story. It is happening simultaneously when cricket world cup is on and what’s happening at three different locations. The way Milan wants to narrate the story is something I loved.

You are a sports buff yourself….Was that a motivation for doing the film?
It’s not that. It’s how you project it which is most important. Here it is a unique style of storytelling….that’s why I felt like doing it….

You worked with Milan in Taxi No. 9 2 11…Have you developed a comfort level?
With Milan there’s a big aspect that he is not a rigid guy. Some directors are so rigid that they want certain things exactly the way they feel is right. He gives you a lot of space that helps you improvise as an actor.

Naseeruddin Shah was supposed to do Danny’s role…
I felt bad because for the first time Naseer and me would have been together but unfortunately because of his son’s accident he couldn’t make it.

Do you think releasing the film during World Cup is a wise move?
Absolutely….And mind you India is going to win this World Cup. I am sure. This is the best team we are having.

KANK Deleted Scenes

Filed under: Bollywood Videos and Pictures - 14 Mar 2007

Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna may have not been KJo’s best film to date but it sure was different. Karan Johar dared to be different but the problem was that he did not go completely different. He tried to play it safe by adding those typical lavish mansions, unwanted songs, etc. That was the basic problem with the film, trying to prepare a lavish biryani, Karan ended up making a stale khichidi.

Anyways, here are some scenes that were deleted from the movie, obviously to reduce the length of the movie which in it’s edited form was also close to 150 minutes. So go and view the deleted scenes that you could not watch on your big-screen

Deleted KANK Scene  # 1

You saw Dev’s pack of kids loose with the Britisher’s.  And here is the match sequence between Dev’s team and the Britisher’s where they manage to take revenge. Shot very well the scene should have been kept in the movie.

Happy Birthday Aamir Khan

Filed under: Bollywood News - 14 Mar 2007

Who can forget the chocolate boy crooning Papa kehte hain (Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak) and the charming ruffian trying to romance a pretty lady in Aye, kya bolti tu (Ghulam)? The man behind the mask - actor Aamir Khan, turns 42 on Wednesday.

One of the finest actors in Bollywood, Aamir has since long made a place for himself in the film industry that no one can compete with. Known for his character-driven roles in films, Aamir portrayed every role with a sense of detailing and intensity that put him in a completely different caliber of actors.

He’s best known for his highly-acclaimed performances in Raja Hindustani (1996), Earth (1998), Lagaan (2001) and Dil Chaahta Hai (2001) and last year’s cult film Rang De Basanti.

Amir Khan

But what sets Aamir apart from other actors is not just the powerful roles he has played. He’s always been a mysterious person in a sense from the average Bollywood stars: He’s picky about the roles he chooses and likes sticking to just one film a year, he doesn’t attend film award functions and is relatively reclusive.
