Water Movie Review
Water was in the midst of controversy during it’s shooting days itself. After its sets were destroyed by fundamental activists, Deepa Mehta had to shift the shooting of the film from India to Sri-Lanka. The journey had been tough. But the award was fruitful. Water got nominated for “Best Film In A Foreign Category” at the Oscars. Sadly though it did not recieve the award. But the movie was apreciated nonetheless. So now when Water releases in India today, the expectations are sky high. Will Water be able to withstand the expectations or will it succumb to it. Take a look at what some of the famous Bollywood critics and fans have to say.
Rajeev Masand —- “It’s got more depth than Fire but it’s still not a patch on 1947: Earth which was a far more compelling story. Water is poetic and painstakingly beautiful but that’s also exactly what’s wrong with it.”
Rating - 3/5
Taran Adarsh —- “ WATER is, without a shred of doubt, Deepa Mehta’s finest work to date. The director handles the complex relationships with dexterity.“
Rating - 4/5

Subash K. Jha —- “ Water belongs to that rare category of films that have the power to redefine the parameters of cinema, to realign the function and purpose of the medium, and to restructure the way the audience looks at the motion picture experience.”
Rating - 3/5
Naomi Dutta —- “Water is not a bad watch but it is far from the poignant, moving story it could have been”
Rating - 2.5 /5
GaraM —- “ Deepa Mehta’s third installment in the trilogy on the elemental series after Fire and Earth (if you could ignore the cliched Bollywood Hollywood) is a superlative cinematic experience. Its sheer sanctity and authenticity bowls you over.“
Rating - 4/5
Aparajita Ghosh —- “Even though its story is set in the past, it holds a great relevance to the sexual inequity and female oppression that is still to be seen in many parts of the world. And the movie’s Indian release (a day after the International Women’s Day) could not have been better timed.“
Rating - 4/5
Sanjay Ram —- “Water quenches the thirst of innocence one keeps looking in modern day cinema. It is a story told with great innocence and enacted by each character with the same innocence and with complete conviction.“
Rating - 4.5/5
Gayatri Makhijani —- “Water is undoubtedly among the finest of our times. Where it loses out, perhaps, is that the movie saddens but it doesn’t quite break my heart.”
Rating - Jhakaas
