Lolita …. the original Nishabd
Many viewers were pertrubed by the movie Nishabd. A sixty year old man and an 18 year old woman. How could love blossom between them. The movie opened with dismal collections as low as 20 % . Amitabh’s choice of roles was questioned by one and all. Overall Indian audiences were not ready to accept the movie.
Nishabd’s story is loosely based on the best-seller book “Lolita” by Vladimir Nabokov. Based on the book two Hollywood movies were made one in 1962 and the other in 1997. Unlike Nishabd both the movies found appreciation in the Hollywood circuit. And that too despite being much more darker than Nishabd. The point I am trying to make here is our we Indian audiences lacking the maturity to accept bold and different films. I am not saying here that i herald paedophilia. Not at all, infact it’s the most shameful act one could ever commit. But so our acts like terrorism, rape ,etc. which we do watch in our movies. So why is there hesistance in the Indian audiences mind to accept such bold concepts.
If Nishabd shocked you then check these scenes from Lolita….
